Our Favorite Ski Getaways

Max and I love to ski – we both started when we were both about three or four years old, and grew up looking forward every week to the weekend when we could go skiing. Because Max actually grew up in the alps, he even had skiing as a class in school (how cool is that?)! And that’s one of the reasons we love living in Switzerland: we have an enormous playground of some of the world’s best pistes right in our own backyard.

Here are some of our favorite places:

Zermatt, Oh Zermatt… Switzerland’s iconic ski heaven, with no less than 360 kilometers of pistes for all levels, each one appointed with a backdrop of breath-taking views. And when you’re tired of taking one too many photos or skiing down some of the best slopes of your life, have a break and grab a bite in one of the on-piste restaurants serving (in our opinion) some of the best mountain food in the country! At the end of the day, ski back to your chalet hotel at 2’222m in altitude and watch the sun set over the majestic Matterhorn…

BelalpBelalp Switzerland

Tucked away in a remote part of Switzerland is the unspoiled valley of Belalp, where the locals still show a very deep connection to their customs and traditions. Adding to the magic of the region is the UNESCO-protected Aletsch glacier, the largest glacier in the alps at 4’000m. You won’t find much hustle and bustle here, in fact there are only a couple of hotels and a few chalets around. But maybe that’s just the kind of space and tranquility you need to relax, enjoy the views that reach all the way to the Matterhorn, and ski down the 60km of stunning pistes.

Crans Montana

Crans Montana Switzerland

Crans Montana is one of the most fashionable alpine resorts in Switzerland, made up of great shopping, lots of delicious restaurants, amazing après-ski and an array of activities in both summer and winter. But we suggest you head there in the winter season, and let a snow-mobile pick you up and whisk you away to a one-of-a-kind boutique hotel located at 2’112m in altitude. From here, you can directly access the 140km of pistes that reach up to 3000m in altitude, from the front door of your hotel.

Gstaad Switzerland

For those who love a good ski day, but also want to do more than that during their winter holidays, we’ve got the perfect solution for you: enter a grandiose boutique chalet hotel boasting a spa, a number of awarded restaurants, views over the whole mountain valley, and direct access to one of the most glamourous mountain villages in the country… Gstaad. Whether you immerse yourself in the local traditions and know-hows, have a private apero in a grotto filled with more than 3’000 cheeses, go dog sledding, snow-shoe your way through the winter wonderland or simply sit back and enjoy the views, this is one holiday you won’t forget!

Often bypassed by international travellers, sunny Arosa situated in the culture-rich region of Graubuden, is a winter paradise offering some of the most fabulous skiing conditions in Switzerland… and 225km of it!  The best part is that you can have access to them from the private gondola that leaves from the doorstep of your hotel – how’s that for classy? And if you need another reason to convince you to make the detour, the train ride up from nearby Chur will have you on the edge of your seat with panoramic views…
