Basel & Northeastern Switzerland

If art, culture and architecture are your cup of tea, you cannot leave Switzerland without making a detour via Basel. The country’s third largest city is home to no less than 40 museums, including the Basel Art Museum, the museum devoted to the iron sculptor Jean Tinguely, and the Fondation Beyeler. You’ll also find more “unusual” ones, such as the Paper Mill museum and the toy museum. While you’re here, we suggest that you get lost in the cobbled streets of the old town, relax by the Rhine river, enjoy a dining experience (or ten) in one of its many excellent restaurants and visit the nearby baroque-style town of Solothurn. You’re also at the entrance of Germany’s black forest and France’s beautiful Alsace region, known for its excellent wine, fairytale villages and historic cities of Colmar and Strasbourg.
